SUMMARY:17th Historic Land Rover Week-end
DESCRIPTION:(Event rescheduled to May 22nd and 23rd).\nPatrick and Margaret Sutcliffe are inviting all owners of leaf-sprung Land Rovers\, Defenders\, Discovery 1s and 2s and Classic Range Rovers to join them in a weekend of activities based on their property\, Paxina.  Although the Trials are limited to these older models\, ALL Club Members are welcome to come and enjoy the weekend. \nThe property has good bush camping and is about 44 kilometres north of Lithgow.  Two bush toilets are provided\, and there is a shower shed (bring your own shower and water).  Access to the site is possible for camper trailers towed by a proper 4WD (i.e.\, with low ratio and high clearance)\, but NOT caravans.  Wood for campfires is available. \nDetails of how to get there will be provided on booking. \nFuel and Basic Supplies \nAvailable from the store at Capertee\, about 14 kilometres away. \nActivities \nPeople are welcome to arrive at the property any time after lunch on the Friday. \nFriday will be spent settling in to the campsite\, viewing the vehicles and counting rivets.  There will be a campfire in the evening subject to fire restrictions. \nOn Saturday morning\, if there is sufficient interest\, a short trip will be taken.  This may be through the spectacular Capertee Valley\, on tracks on our and a neighbour’s property\, or to visit the historic shale mining town of Glen Davis. \nAfter lunch\, there will be a chance to test your driving skills in the first two Sections of the Trials event (see below). \nIn the evening\, many tall tales will be told around the campfire (subject to fire restrictions). \nOn Sunday morning the third and fourth Sections will be Trialed\, with results and awards being presented at lunchtime. \nTrials\nDriver briefing Saturday 11.45am at Section 1 \nThe trial is open to all standard Land Rovers up to and including Classic Range Rovers and Discovery 1 and 2. \nCompetitors will be classified into four groups\, \n\nSeries 1.\nSeries 2 and 3.\nCounty\, Perentie and Defender.\nClassic Range Rover and Discovery 1 and 2.\n\nThe trial comprises four Sections\, each section consisting of 12 “Gates” (bamboo canes pushed into the ground) numbered from 12 down to 1.  The aim of the trial is to drive through the Section without stopping or touching the gates. If a competitor hits a gate or has to stop they receive a penalty\, e.g. if you hit Gate 6 you receive 6 points\, As all competitors start with a score of zero\, the aim is to achieve the lowest possible number of penalty points. \nAs a general rule the Gates at the start of the Section are easy and get more difficult as the Gate number decreases. \nLWB vehicles are at a disadvantage compared to SWBs in some Sections\, so to even things up\, they are allowed a number of “Shunts”. This means they can stop\, reverse and then go forward again\, without occurring a penalty. \nA trial is not a race and is not timed\, so driving slowly\, carefully and picking your lines is the best way to finish with a low score. \nCompetitors are only allowed one attempt at each section\, but the same vehicle can be used by multiple competitors. \nCompetitors cumulative scores over the two events will constitute a Trials Championship. \nBookings: Peter Mitchell (or phone Peter on 0408 811 407).

SUMMARY:Melrose and Broken Hill Extended Trip
DESCRIPTION:Richard Lead’s and Banjo’s recent Club trip to Hill End and Orange was amazing\, but at Orange you can still hear the waves crashing on Bondi Beach. The brilliant engineers at Solihull did not design our Land Rovers to hug the East Coast of Australia\, so Richard and Banjo are now venturing further into the Red Centre on a two part trip. Come for one or both parts – either way\, you will be guaranteed of a good time. \nThe following is a guide of what to expect over this 10-night extended trip\, as Richard is very flexible and will be happy to make changes depending on what trip participants would prefer to do. \nPart One: March 31 – April 5 \nLeaving Sydney on Wednesday\, March 31st and taking two nights to get down to Melrose in South Australia. You can either travel down with Richard in convoy\, or meet along the way\, or even down in Melrose itself. \nYou will arrive in Melrose in time to join in the fun of the SA Land Rover Easter long weekend. This is a family-friendly programme designed to appeal to enthusiasts on multiple levels including: \n\nBest of breed (show and shine)\nTrials\nTag-a longs\nSocial activities\nGreat camping\nKids’ activities.\n\nThe full programme is yet to be finalised\, however registrations are now open and more details can be found on the website of the Land Rover Register of South Australia. \nIf the event is impacted by COVID\, full refunds will be available. \nPart Two: April 5 – April 10 \nYou will leave Melrose on Monday 5th and travel to Broken Hill for four nights. Highlights of this part of the trip will include a tour by Australian geologist\, Prof. Ian Plimer. Ian has kindly offered to host us at his property\, which has some challenging 4WD tracks\, which will no doubt provide endless hours of entertainment. Accommodation will be at a caravan park in Broken Hill. \nTo express your interest in this trip\, or to register for one or both parts\, please contact Richard Lead. \nNote: As with all Club trips in 2021\, changes or cancellations may occur due to border closures and Government COVID rules. \n  \n
