SUMMARY:The Grampians (Part A)
DESCRIPTION:The Grampians features some of Victoria’s most spectacular scenery and stunning native wildflowers. This trip is timed to see some wildflowers in bloom\, and before the summer dries out the bush. The second week of NSW school holidays\, but the Victorian schools will have already gone back\, so we should avoid the crowds. Finishing on Saturday morning\, this allows members two days to return home for the first week back at school. \nWe will start our trip in Hall’s Gap\, the centre of the Grampians\, where our base will be at the caravan park. The park provides a great range of accommodation options including tent sites\, caravan sites with or without power\, and cabins. \nThere is a wide range of activities available to Grampians visitors. Our activities will include short and half-day bush walks to spectacular lookouts and waterfalls\, scenic drives and a visit to the Brambuk National Park and Aboriginal Culture Centre. Or do your own thing – stroll the village\, go cycling or just relax with the view. Some 4WD scenic drives are planned\, the tracks are rated medium in parts.

SUMMARY:17th Historic Land Rover Week-end
DESCRIPTION:(Event rescheduled to May 22nd and 23rd).\nPatrick and Margaret Sutcliffe are inviting all owners of leaf-sprung Land Rovers\, Defenders\, Discovery 1s and 2s and Classic Range Rovers to join them in a weekend of activities based on their property\, Paxina.  Although the Trials are limited to these older models\, ALL Club Members are welcome to come and enjoy the weekend. \nThe property has good bush camping and is about 44 kilometres north of Lithgow.  Two bush toilets are provided\, and there is a shower shed (bring your own shower and water).  Access to the site is possible for camper trailers towed by a proper 4WD (i.e.\, with low ratio and high clearance)\, but NOT caravans.  Wood for campfires is available. \nDetails of how to get there will be provided on booking. \nFuel and Basic Supplies \nAvailable from the store at Capertee\, about 14 kilometres away. \nActivities \nPeople are welcome to arrive at the property any time after lunch on the Friday. \nFriday will be spent settling in to the campsite\, viewing the vehicles and counting rivets.  There will be a campfire in the evening subject to fire restrictions. \nOn Saturday morning\, if there is sufficient interest\, a short trip will be taken.  This may be through the spectacular Capertee Valley\, on tracks on our and a neighbour’s property\, or to visit the historic shale mining town of Glen Davis. \nAfter lunch\, there will be a chance to test your driving skills in the first two Sections of the Trials event (see below). \nIn the evening\, many tall tales will be told around the campfire (subject to fire restrictions). \nOn Sunday morning the third and fourth Sections will be Trialed\, with results and awards being presented at lunchtime. \nTrials\nDriver briefing Saturday 11.45am at Section 1 \nThe trial is open to all standard Land Rovers up to and including Classic Range Rovers and Discovery 1 and 2. \nCompetitors will be classified into four groups\, \n\nSeries 1.\nSeries 2 and 3.\nCounty\, Perentie and Defender.\nClassic Range Rover and Discovery 1 and 2.\n\nThe trial comprises four Sections\, each section consisting of 12 “Gates” (bamboo canes pushed into the ground) numbered from 12 down to 1.  The aim of the trial is to drive through the Section without stopping or touching the gates. If a competitor hits a gate or has to stop they receive a penalty\, e.g. if you hit Gate 6 you receive 6 points\, As all competitors start with a score of zero\, the aim is to achieve the lowest possible number of penalty points. \nAs a general rule the Gates at the start of the Section are easy and get more difficult as the Gate number decreases. \nLWB vehicles are at a disadvantage compared to SWBs in some Sections\, so to even things up\, they are allowed a number of “Shunts”. This means they can stop\, reverse and then go forward again\, without occurring a penalty. \nA trial is not a race and is not timed\, so driving slowly\, carefully and picking your lines is the best way to finish with a low score. \nCompetitors are only allowed one attempt at each section\, but the same vehicle can be used by multiple competitors. \nCompetitors cumulative scores over the two events will constitute a Trials Championship. \nBookings: Peter Mitchell (or phone Peter on 0408 811 407).

After the Melrose Land Rover Weekend\, here is a second option for an exciting extension! \nVisit the amazing Warraweena Conservation Park in the northern Flinders Ranges for a four night stay. Once a huge sheep station\, Warraweena was purchased by a conservation group and is now managed as a native flora and fauna reserve. It features private bush campsites\, well spread out so you think you have the whole park to yourselves. Our group campsite will feature a picnic table\, fire-ring and a toilet. Showers\, toilets and a laundry are available at the park homestead area. \nAs well as amazing wildlife and spectacular scenery\, Warraweena offers private 4wd tracks. We are planning two optional day trips. The first is the Copper Track\, visiting historic copper mines and pastoral areas\, as well as the Blinman township and Parachilna Gorge. The second planned day trip is the spectacular\, challenging and rewarding Mt Gill track (which your trip leader has previously experienced)/ \nWarraweena will also please stargazers as it offers very dark skies. \nOptional Extension: Friday 9th April to Monday 12th April in Peterborough (refer details).

SUMMARY:17th Historic Land Rover Week-end (rescheduled from March)
DESCRIPTION:Patrick and Margaret Sutcliffe are inviting all owners of leaf-sprung Land Rovers\, Defenders\, Discovery 1s and 2s and Classic Range Rovers to join them in a weekend of activities based on their property\, Paxina. \nCompetitors will be classified into four groups\, \nSeries 1. \nSeries 2 and 3. \nCounty\, Perentie and Defender. \nClassic Range Rover and Discovery 1 and 2. \nThe trial comprises four Sections\, each section consisting of 12 “Gates” (bamboo canes pushed into the ground) numbered from 12 down to 1.

SUMMARY:The New Defender - What's It Like?
DESCRIPTION:Gavan Swift will host a virtual Zoom meeting to discuss the New Defender.  As you will have read in the last two issues of Marque magazine\, Gavan was loaned a new Defender by Land Rover Australia and he put it through a very intensive road test and detailed examination.  This online presentation follows on from Gavan’s published articles and will include a question and answer session.  Greg Pearson will also be contributing to the program. \nThis is a great opportunity for members to learn more about this very important new vehicle.  How does it measure up against current Land Rover vehicles?   Does it meet the requirements our members look for?  You’ll find out on the night so please plan to join us for what promises to be a very interesting evening. \nTo attend the meeting\, members will need to pre register.  To do so\, please send an email to Jim Nicholson and you will be provided with the meeting login details. \nWe look forward to seeing you online.

SUMMARY:Whale Watch Bush Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Kevin and Jenny Gowen to see the whales on their annual migration from Antarctica to their spawning grounds near Moreton Bay in Queensland. Late June is the prime time to see these wonderful creatures as they relentlessly swim up the coast\, sometimes just ‘blowing’ at the end of each dive\, sometimes ‘breaching’ with almost the entire whales 50 tonne body out of the water. The humpback and the ‘right’ whales are the most common. \nSometimes the whales are close to the coast\, sometimes a little out to sea. They’ve actually been seen so close to the cliffs that you could hear the ‘blow’ and see the vent. The different species of whale have a different ‘blow’ pattern. \nThe walk is a 12 km relatively easy hike through the Royal National Park from Watta Molla to Bundeena on the Coast Track. There are spectacular views of the sandstone coastal cliffs and the track traverses the isolated beaches of Marley and Little Marley. A slightly increased distance could include viewing the thousands of years old Aboriginal (Dharawal people) petroglyphs of sea creatures\, not far from the water near Jibbon Beach. \nYou don’t need to be a marathon walker\, but a reasonable degree of fitness is essential. For more details and where to meet\, please contact Kevin.
