SUMMARY:Arkaroola\, South Australia
DESCRIPTION:The Club ran a successful Easter 2021 trip to Broken Hill with Australia’s leading geologist\, Prof. Ian Plimer. Ian will now take us on another science educational trip\, this time to Arkaroola. This site\, in the North Flinders Ranges\, is famous for its ancient geology\, biology\, palaeontology\, and astronomy. Expect two days of intense learning about our planet\, as well as some 4WD fun. Bring your kids and grand-kids for this amazing learning adventure. \nThe plan is to meet at Broken Hill in the afternoon of Thursday 14 April and depart on Friday morning. \nAccommodation in Arkaroola ranges from luxury cabins all the way to unpowered camp sites. \nThe trip is dog friendly (with only minor restrictions) so bring your pooch to keep Banjo company. \nAfter Ian departs on April 18th we can decide which parts of the Flinders Ranges to explore\, head home\, or join the Mundi Mundi Bash at Broken Hill commencing 21 April. \nThe trip is suitable for all Land Rover models and caravans. \nContact Richard for more details.

SUMMARY:The Darling River Run
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin John and Tracey on a one-week trip travelling down the Darling River from Bourke to Wentworth. \nThe trip is suitable for tents\, camper trailers and off-road caravans\, we will be taking our caravan so travel speeds will be slower.  The road from Bourke to Wentworth is mainly a gravel road which will further reduce travel speeds). \nWe will be staying in Caravan Parks and Sheep Station Stays; this will ensure we have accommodation booked for the entire trip (no free camps). As we will be travelling through National Parks and staying at a Sheep Station\, dogs will not be allowed. \nThe trip is approximately 3000 km\, so to do the trip in one week we will need to be travelling to the next camp everyday (except Trilby Station\, where we will have two nights and driving the mud map tour of the station approximately 60 km) \nThis trip has a strictly limited number of participants due to accommodation availability and it is expected to fill quickly. \nFor more information\, or to book\, please contact John and Tracey (bookings via email only please).

SUMMARY:Whale Watch Bush Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Kevin and Jenny Gowen to see the whales on their annual migration from Antarctica to their spawning grounds near Moreton Bay in Queensland. Late June is the prime time to see these wonderful creatures as they relentlessly swim up the coast\, sometimes just ‘blowing’ at the end of each dive\, sometimes ‘breaching’ with almost the entire whales 50 tonne body out of the water. The humpback and the ‘right’ whales are the most common. \nSometimes the whales are close to the coast\, sometimes a little out to sea. They’ve actually been seen so close to the cliffs that you could hear the ‘blow’ and see the vent. The different species of whale have a different ‘blow’ pattern. \nThe walk is a 12 km relatively easy hike through the Royal National Park from Watta Molla to Bundeena on the Coast Track. There are spectacular views of the sandstone coastal cliffs and the track traverses the isolated beaches of Marley and Little Marley. A slightly increased distance could include viewing the thousands of years old Aboriginal (Dharawal people) petroglyphs of sea creatures\, not far from the water near Jibbon Beach. \nYou don’t need to be a marathon walker\, but a reasonable degree of fitness is essential. For more details and where to meet\, please contact Kevin.

This trip is timed to see some wildflowers in bloom\, and before the summer dries out the bush. Finishing on Saturday morning\, this allows members two days to return home for the first week back at school. \nWe will start our trip in Hall’s Gap\, the centre of the Grampians\, where our base will be at the caravan park. The park provides a great range of accommodation options including tent sites\, caravan sites with or without power\, and cabins. \nThere is a wide range of activities available to Grampians visitors. Our activities will include short and half-day bush walks to spectacular lookouts and waterfalls\, scenic drives and a visit to the Brambuk National Park and Aboriginal Culture Centre. Or do your own thing – stroll the village\, go cycling or just relax with the view. Some 4WD scenic drives are planned\, the tracks are rated medium in parts.
