For the energetic\, a walk along the Tramway Track to find the ruins of Airly Village\, established in the very late 1800s by the people mining kerosene shale. A steep climb (by car)\, expansive views\, a short trek to “the Ultimate Slot”and maybe a venture into “the Valley of the Dinosaurs”\, a visit to a diamond mine\, abandoned dwellings and whatever else we can find before heading home. \nNote that the Mt Airly campsite has NO facilities\, so campers must be self-sufficient. Limited numbers\, so register your interest early. \nFor more information or to register for the trip\, please contact Ivars.

SUMMARY:Arkaroola Revisited - the Scenic Route
DESCRIPTION:If your memories of High School geology tell you rocks are boring your teacher wasn’t Ian Plimer. Prof. Plimer will again take a week out of his busy life to take our Club on an educational trip to a unique and ancient part of our planet. \nThis time we will take the scenic route. Start at Broken Hill on Monday morning\, head North to Tibooburra where we will overnight. Tuesday we head to Cameron Corner for the obligatory silly photographs\, and then drive the Strezelecki Track to Arkaroola. If the words Strezelecki Track don’t stir your emotions your soul belongs in a cheap and cheerful Corolla. \nWe will again stay at the excellent resort at Arkaroola for 4 nights\, giving Ian 3 full days to take us exploring. The trip officially ends on the Saturday morning\, but hey\, we are now in the Flinders Ranges\, so imagine the mayhem we will get up to. \nThe trip is in NSW school holidays. Bring your kids and grand kids. The look on kids’ face when their tap on a rock exposes a 500 million year old fossil is priceless. \nCamper trailer and dog friendly (Banjo loves company). Contact Richard to book and for accommodation details. Accommodation in Tibooburra could be tight\, so we need to book immediately.

SUMMARY:The Old Convict Road
DESCRIPTION:Starting with a ferry crossing of the Hawkesbury River at Wiseman’s Ferry\, join us for a day exploring the old convict-built road which heads to the Hunter Valley. \nFirstly we will explore the Devine’s Hill section in Dharug National Park\, by a walking tour of about one hour or so. This is the most spectacular section of the remaining convict works. We will then proceed up the MacDonald River valley to St Albans and then north into the Dharug and Yengo National Parks\, with stops to explore various features of the convict-built roadworks. We will finish at Bucketty mid-afternoon. \nThis trip is suitable for all Land Rover vehicles. There is only one rough section along a short side trip to explore CircuitFlat Bridge – participants in vehicles lacking ground clearance may choose to go as passengers in another vehicle for this short side trip. \nA reasonable level of fitness will be required for the Devine’s Hill walk\, which is 50% uphill (followed by 50% downhill!). \nVehicle numbers are quite limited due to very limited parking at the various stops. No pets permitted. \nSuitable for all Club Members and Vehicles. \nFor more information or to register for the trip\, contact John Bradley.

DESCRIPTION:Time for another Sunday drive! An easy run over the Blue Mountains on Sunday\, meeting at Capertee in the morning. You may like to make a weekend of it and stay in Lithgow\, or if bringing a camper trailer or van\, stay in the area behind the Capertee Royal Hotel for free (if you eat a meal at the pub) on the Saturday night. \nFrom Capertee we’ll go down to the Turon Diggings for some fording action and morning tea. After lunch\, we’ll turn the scenery up a few notches with more fording as we cross the Turon River several times and enjoy spectacular valley views as we drive Razorback Road to the Castlereagh Highway\, and back to Capertee for afternoon tea and trip’s end. \nThis is a nice Sunday drive suitable for all vehicles and the whole family. The pets will need to be left at home though as we will be in a National Park. \nContact Greg for details and to register for the trip. \nNote – Relatively easy trip with recovery most unlikely. Suitable for new members\, Discovery Sport\, Evoque and Freelander vehicles. Some steep descents and climbs\, and some scrabbly fords

SUMMARY:Hill End and Orange Weekend
DESCRIPTION:The Bridle Track from Bathurst to Hill End has finally reopened\, but statisticians are concerned that not enough Land Rovers are using it. Your Club has a cunning plan. \nWhat better way of welcoming Autumn than a weekend at our Club’s spiritual home at Hill End\, staying at the friendly Hill End Holiday Ranch\, followed by a Sunday lunch at a wonderful Orange winery. The Ranch is amazing\, with vintage railway carriages converted into comfortable air-conditioned accommodation. \nBring your dog! \nThe trip is suitable for all Land Rover models. \nContact Richard for further information and to secure your spot. Hill End is always a popular Club destination. \nGrade C – Moderate trip with some sections that require caution (Richard will be in his Freelander and won’t cross the Macquarie River if it is too deep). SUMMARY:Australia Day at Araluen
DESCRIPTION:Leigh and I thought it was about time the RRC returned to Araluen\, so I am proposing a base-camp style of trip from Thursday 25 Jan to Sunday 28 January 2024 at our place at Nobby’s Island\, Araluen. \nAs before\, numbers are unlimited\, and although the coming drought may make camping a little hot\, the river should still be in good nick for swimming and water frolics. I will also run a couple of one-day trips involving frequent and very pretty river crossings and some spectacular mountain tracks.  This is gold and bush ranger country. \nThe road into the campsite is OK for caravans with a bit of clearance and showers and toilets are available in the house. \nPlease email Hugh to book in for this trip.

SUMMARY:Batlow Christmas/New Year Camp
DESCRIPTION:For many years the Club travelled to Geehi in the Snowy Mountains to camp over the Christmas / New Year period. We believe we may have found an excellent alternative to Geehi. \nBatlow is set in a beautiful part of the high country and as such\, enjoys lower temperatures in summer making it ideal for summer camping. There are many great drives around the area\, with lots of interesting places to visit\, lots of off-road sections in the forests and scenic drives around the area\, visiting towns like Tumbarumba\, Tumut\, Talbingo\, Adelong\, Blowering etc. Tumbarumba holds a rodeo on News Years Day. \nBatlow Caravan Park has just been fully refurbished and has… \n\nUnpowered sites $25\nPowered sites $35\nCabins starting at $130\nThere are ensuite style amenities and a fabulous camp kitchen.\n\nPlease email John and Tracey Deans if you are interested in joining the trip.

I am expecting a cost of approx. $170 per person for all the above tours/visits\, that is $10 per day for the trip. \nNumbers for this trip will be strictly limited due to the maximum number of visitors to some of the sites. \nThis trip is expected to fill quickly\, if you are interested\, please contact John and Tracey now for more information or to join the trip. \nNote: Grade E are easy off-road trips where recovery is most unlikely\, suitable for new members\, suitable for Evoque or Freelander models.

SUMMARY:Final Historic Land Rover Weekend
DESCRIPTION:As some of you will be aware\, we are selling our property\, Paxina\, which has been the scene of many a great Land Rover event over the last 25 years\, so this will be your last chance to enjoy the serenity of the campsite and the company of fellow Land Rover owners. At this stage\, nothing specific has been planned\, but we do hope to have at least one convoy of Historic Land Rovers run through the Capertee Valley\, and possibly along the Turon River. \nThe property has good bush camping and is about 44 kilometres north of Lithgow. Two bush toilets are provided\, and there is a shower shed (bring your own shower and water). Access to the site is possible for camper trailers towed by a proper 4WD (i.e.\, with low ratio and high clearance)\, but NOT caravans. Wood for campfires is available. Dogs are welcome\, as long as they are kept under control and poo picked up. \nDetails of how to get there will be provided on booking. \nFuel and Basic Supplies are available from the store at Capertee\, about 14 kilometres away. \nActivities \nPeople are welcome to arrive at the property any time after lunch on the Friday. \nFriday will be spent settling into the campsite\, viewing the vehicles and counting rivets. There will be a campfire in the evening subject to fire restrictions. \nIn the evening\, many tall tales will be told around the campfire (subject to fire restrictions). \nSaturday’s and Sunday’s activities will be decided on at the previous evening’s campfire. \nContact Patrick to book in for this event. \nGrade Note: Grade E at the campsite (no caravans) and Grade D on property tracks.

SUMMARY:Turon National Park Revisited
DESCRIPTION:Time to revisit the Turon\, and another nice Sunday drive! An easy run over the Blue Mountains on Sunday meeting at Capertee in the morning. You may like to make a weekend of it and stay in Lithgow the Saturday night. Other options are local AirBnBs\, or the Capertee pub offers free camping for the price of an evening meal. \nFrom Capertee we’ll go down to the Turon Diggings for some fording action and morning tea. Then we’ll backtrack a few kilometres for a pleasant drive through Turon Gates and along the Turon River where we’ll stop for a river-side lunch. After lunch\, we’ll turn the scenery up a few notches with more fording as we cross the Turon River several times and spectacular valley views as we drive Razorback Road to the Castlereagh Highway and back to Capertee for afternoon tea and trip’s end. \nThis is a nice Sunday drive suitable for the whole family\, but the fording at the Diggings might be a challenge for Evoque and Freelander models. Give me a call if this is you. The pets will need to be left at home though as we will be in a National Park. And don’t worry about the weather – I have a plan B route all on seal so you will get your Sunday drive. \nContact Peter for details and to register for the trip. \nPlease note: Not suitable for Evoque or Freelander vehicles but call me to discuss if this is you.

SUMMARY:Temora Warbirds May Showcase
DESCRIPTION:The Temora Aviation Museum’s May 2023 Aircraft Showcase will feature all serviceable aircraft from the RAAF 100 SQN Historic Flight Collection at the Temora Aviation Museum\, which includes the Supermarine Spitfires\, CA-13 Boomerang\, Cessna O-2A\, Gloster Meteor\, Lockheed Hudson\, Wirraway\, Tiger Moth\, Ryan STM S2\, and English Electric Canberra. Note that this is not the major Warbirds airshow but a more intimate Showcase where you can walk around the aircraft and workshops and talk to the flight crew and maintenance teams. Plus of course the flying program – you are not going to see and hear many of these aircraft flying anywhere else in the world. \nI plan on leaving Friday morning for the run down the motorway to Temora via Binalong and Harden\, and to set-up camping at the airfield\, with dinner at a local club. Saturday is the Showcase day starting at 10am\, and we’ll see about dinner again at a local club. Sunday we’ll meander back to Sydney via Young\, Cowra and Oberon picking up a few POI along the way. Pet\, camper and kid friendly. \nFor more information or to register for the trip\, contact Peter. Book your own tickets at May Showcase – Temora Aviation Museum and airfield accommodation at Temora Airfield Tourist Park — Visit Temora.

SUMMARY:Myall Lakes NP Beach Driving
DESCRIPTION:Please Note: This trip is now full\, but please contact Peter to be added to the waitlist. \nAbout three hours north of Sydney is Myall Lakes NP\, between Hawks Nest and Seal Rocks. For an $8 day pass\, you can drive two beaches\, one to Little Gibber and the other to Big Gibber. This trip will hit both these beaches. \nOn Saturday\, we’ll meet in Hawks Nest at 10am\, making sure everyone has a beach pass\, and then drive to Little Gibber. We’ll spend a couple of hours there\, with a lazy lunch\, a walk around the headland\, and the usual beach activities like swimming or at least testing the water\, lying about\, even fishing. If it is a bit windy\, we can walk over the headland to the sheltered side. Back to our accommodation in the afternoon for a walk along Jimmy’s Beach or even Yacaaba Headland for the fit types\, and a pub/club dinner for those interested. \nSunday is a repeat\, but to Big Gibber. This is a longer drive in softer sand\, but both days have been scheduled so we’ve got low tides. Once we are all off the beach\, it’s time to head home. \nYou will of course need to have done the Sand Driver training course\, have a tyre gauge and compressor\, plus recovery gear – a snatch strap\, shackles and spade at a minimum\, but extra points for recovery boards or a winch. The trip will be limited to six vehicles. And as we are in a NP\, no pets please. \nAccommodation: Caravan Park in Hawks Nest – cabin\, powered or unpowered sites available. \nContact Peter for details and to register for the trip. \nPlease note: Not suitable for Evoque or Freelander vehicles
