Preparing Your Vehicle For a Club Trip

Depending on the type of Club trip you would like to participate in, you vehicle may need special preparation. This will vary with the type and length of the trip and your trip leader will advise you of the requirements for his/her trip. All vehicles used on any Club activity must be roadworthy and registered and drivers must hold a current driver's licence of a class appropriate to the vehicle.

The Club advises that vehicles should be fitted with suitable recovery points both front and rear. It is you responsibility to ascertain whether the recovery points fitted to your vehicle are adequate. Safety is your responsibility.

The Club uses UHF CB radio for convoy communication. There are many different makes and models on the market and the unit you should buy is based on your personal preferences. Generally speaking, the in-car units have a greater range than the handheld units. It is not mandatory to have a UHF radio fitted to your vehicle, however fitment of one greatly increases the trip experience.

You should also carry in your vehicle as a matter of discipline the following equipment on any Club trip:

Rated Snatch Strap appropriate to your vehicle

2 x Rated '0' or Bow Shackles

Shovel

First Aid Kit

Fire Extinguisher

You should keep track of the usage of your own recovery gear and use common sense when deciding whether to keep or replace an item. A lot of recovery gear is made from synthetic webbing and has a finite service life. Snatch straps, in particular, should be treated with great respect as during snatch recovery operations the stresses placed on both strap, recovery points and the vehicle are enormous.
