Trip: Orange - Ophir Camping Weekend

Weekend Camping Trip
Trip to Orange June Long Weekend 12 to 14 June 2010. A weekend of exploration and relaxation is planned. We will camp at the "Ophir" Reserve and from that base explore the area. The local Club, the Canobolas Club  is very happy to help with local knowledge and may also join us for some fun.
The area has several areas for trip potential not the least of which is exploration of the Mt Canobolas area. The Ophir reserve has basic facilities including the ability to have a camp fire on what will undoubtedly be cold nights. Members who don't want to camp or camper trailer, can stay at the many alternatives that Orange offers. I am planning one day of tripping in and around Orange, like wineries etc  but the area offers many opportunities for scenic driving. Trips over the weekend will be Grade C or easier.

Trip:
Sunny Corner - The Dark Side

We all know Sunny Corner State Forest as a network of picturesque tracks crossing through the pine forests with lots of sweet-smelling pine cones, mushrooms and the occasional moderate driving challenge. If that generally satisfies your four-wheel driving aspirations, this trip is not for you!
But if you’re eager for a more challenging day of driving that will test your skills and allow your vehicle to prove its talents, you’ll find this trip a taste of 4WD heaven! Entering the forest at Sunny Corner, this trip takes in a thrilling, 45km long roller-coaster ride of mountain tracks to re-emerge about 5 hours later onto the bitumen at Capertee, for an easy drive back to Sydney (and a potential pizza stop for dinner!)
This trip will require 4WDriving experience (drivers must have completed Introductory Driver Training as a minimum) as well as a reasonable degree of confidence to tackle the dozens of long, steep ascents, descents, rutted tracks and washed-out water crossings.
Your Land Rover however will take it all in its stride: no snorkel is necessary and standard tyres with reasonable tread depth shouldn’t present any problems. Your vehicle however mustn’t have any reliability issues as towing a vehicle that ‘fails to proceed’ over many sections might not be possible.
While this trip is rated a ‘C’ grade, it could easily become a ‘B’ grade in the event of wet weather.
Finally, note that this is definitely a family-friendly trip where all your passengers will enjoy the spectacular scenery, the perfect picnic spots, the unspoilt water crossings and of course the friendly club camaraderie.

Please contact John Learson for more information or to reserve a place - this trip is limited to 10 vehicles.
