The traditional Easter High Country trip is on again, and with four days we have a chance to see even more of this fantastic driving and camping destination.
The plans are a little sketchy at the moment but the idea is to meet at Jindabyne about lunch-time on Friday, heading south to cross into Victoria at Willis then disappear into the High Country. From there we’ll head more or less north, overnighting at some favourite camp-sites and finding some new ones, driving some terrific familiar and new tracks, and re-emerging on Tuesday near Corryong. We’ll look to pop out mid-way so those with petrol cars or large wine requirements can re-fuel.
A few points:
The terrain is steep but perfectly drivable. I’m looking to build on a recent recce to Melbourne to add to our repertoire of top tracks.
If it rains heaps things change. Rivers can’t be crossed and some tracks are down-hill no matter which way you point. So we’ll come up with a Plan B.
But please ensure your car is up to it – you’ll get by without ATs but all systems should work as advertised.
And that you’ve done the driver training and recovery courses. That’s in case I get stuck. You’ve got a few months to pick these up if need be.
Petrol cars may need an extra 20 litres to keep the stress levels down and marriages intact and should refuel at the start of the trip.
Sorry, no camper trailers or pets.
You will need to be self-sufficient (beer and wine mostly, but also water and food) for the period. There are no corner shops nearby.
It is the High Country and it is April – think cool to cooler. But no flies.
We can comfortably take 10 cars. So if you are at a loose end over Easter, like the idea of traditions, and love bush-camping and interesting terrain, book now with Peter Palmer
